The Traffic Branch of the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) significantly intensified its general enforcement activities across the nation over the past weekend, signaling a major crackdown on road safety and vehicle compliance.
During the coordinated operations, officers conducted rigorous checks and took action against a wide array of traffic breaches. Key areas of focus included the removal of derelict vehicles, the identification of illegal or non-compliant registration plates, and the inspection of expired vehicle documents.
The enforcement teams also targeted safety-related defects, such as:
- Defective lights and tyres
- Excessive window tint
- Improper parking and obstruction of the roadway
- Other various violations of existing traffic laws
Police officials have confirmed that these operations are not a one-time event; they are scheduled to continue in communities throughout the country. Motorists and vehicle owners are being urged to take immediate action to ensure their vehicles and documentation are in order. Authorities emphasized that owners should correct defects and remove derelict vehicles from public spaces now, rather than waiting to be served with a notice, fined, or summoned to court.
While the surge in activity has led to numerous citations, the RSVGPF maintained that their primary objective is not punishment. “Enforcement is necessary, but compliance is the goal,” the department stated, adding that they hope motorists will take personal responsibility for their vehicles before police intervention is required.
