- Eardley Martin, St Vincent (SVG) Volleyball President, Resigns
On January 19, 2024, THE VINCENTIAN reported that SVG Volleyball Association President Eardley Martin was “unfazed” by an effort to oust him, but he caved in less than a week later.
Martin resigned after Gremlins and Country Roots put pressure on him.
Thus, a new executive could be elected on Monday, January 29, 2024.
This follows a letter from the Gremlins Club and signed by Nikita Campbell summoning groups to a 5 p.m. meeting at St. Vincent Grammar School to elect four-year sports administrators.
Campbell wrote on Monday, January 22, 2024, “I have taken it upon myself to assist in determining a way forward for the sport… Thus, I cordially invite the General Volleyball Body to a general assembly to elect a new executive.
Martin explained his surprise retirement hours later in a letter released last Friday night, January 20, 2024.
As much as I love volleyball, I have a life outside of it and cannot travel between Gremlins (Nikita Campbell) and Country Roots (Alicia Glasgow),” he lamented.
His executive was weak before Martin’s resignation, with only two members remaining.
According to Campbell, Monday’s gathering would involve elections, the presentation of executive posts and their responsibilities, candidate nomination and acceptance, and candidate addresses if desired.
Campbell’s invitation highlighted participation, saying, “We believe that a strong and dedicated executive team is crucial to achieving our goals. Thus, we are thrilled to assemble all General Volleyball Body members for this crucial democratic process.
Martin took over the sport in February 2022.
