- SCHOLARSHIPS FOR FEMALES IN AGRICULTURE
Females account for nearly half of this country’s farmers, and Helen’s Daughters is doing its part to help to develop the next generation of female farmers.
This, as the organisation on Thursday, awarded scholarships to Zaylie Lewis and Kemelia Samuel.
Both are students of the St Vincent Community College Division of Technical and Vocational Education pursuing the agriculture science and entrepreneurship programme.
The scholarship will go towards assisting them to complete their studies.
Speaking at a ceremony was Helen’s Daughters SVG Programme Coordinator Michker Edwards who said since the inception of the programme in St. Vincent in 2021, more than 200 Vincentian women have received training from the Helen’s Daughter Academy, and over 130 have successfully completed the program and graduated.
Dean of the SVG Community College Division of Technical Vocational Education Osborne Bowens, encouraged both recipients to take full advantage of the opportunity being made available.
Speaking with the API, recipients Zaylie Lewis and Kemelia Samuel both expressed a love for agriculture and both students said the scholarship would greatly assist them in their education endeavours.
Helen’s Daughters is a St Lucia based organisation which provides assistance to women engaged in agriculture and is operating in three countries, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines and St Kitts and Nevis.
The Primary object of the organisation is to foster the economic advancement of women living in rural communities.
