Minister of Finance, Hon. Camillo Gonsalves speaking at the commissioning of the new SVG coast guard said, “there is a causal connection between crime and development.”
The Finance Minister added that if citizens are not secure, the development of the nation will suffer.
Minister Gonsalves stressed that it is important and critical to invest in the safety of “our oceans, waters, fisherfolk and the residents of the Grenadine islands.”
Minister Gonsalves highlighted government’s plans for the growth of the “blue economy,” stating that the “blue economy can attract people to what is arguably the best set of sailing waters in the Caribbean.”
The Finance Minister also alluded to the bountiful marine life; which he said employment, development and revenue are to be gained from it all.
The Minister, however, noted that they all have an element of danger and security is needed.
