(By Ernesto Cooke) – Andrea Bowman St Vincent’s ambassador to Taiwan has hailed the over three-decade relationship between SVG and Taiwan, stating that they are “a family”.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony for the SVG’s embassy in Taipei, Bowman said that establishment of the diplomatic mission marked a new beginning for the bilateral relationship and reaffirmed the two sides’ pledge to promote democracy.
The opening of the embassy also heard from PM Ralph Gonsalves, who stated that the setup of the diplomatic mission is a political statement on how St Vincent places great emphasis on bilateral ties.
PM Gonsalves says that he looks forward to strengthened cooperation with Taiwan on addressing challenges such as climate change.
Saint Vincent and the Grenadines forged diplomatic ties with Taiwan in 1981.
