Taiwan SVG Relations – 467.5 Million In Grants Over 35 Years

St. Vincent and the Grenadines have received 467.5 million dollars in grants from the government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) during the past 35years, since having established diplomatic relations in 1981.

This was disclosed by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Sir Louis Straker in his remarks at a reception held on Tuesday, October 4th, 2016 to celebrate the 105th National Day of Taiwan.

Minister Straker said the loans and grants received from Taiwan have helped every sector in this country’s economy.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves congratulated Taiwan on its National Day and expressed appreciation for its generosity over the years.

He said the largest single item of grants from Taiwan was 42 million US dollars for Civil Development Projects, and added that the only country that has provided more loans and grants to this country than Taiwan is the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
