Teachers in St Vincent and the Grenadines will be included on the list of persons classified as front line workers.

Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves speaking on VC3 television on Wednesday, said Cabinet had made the decision.

Gonsalves said the decision was made base on the advice they had received from the medical authorities and those on the subcommittee of NEMO, along with other factors.

“ Teachers and those working at the school, the cooks etc., anyone who comes into contact with the children”.

“First of all, there are several reasons for this. There is an uptick in the number of persons who have contracted COVID-19, and the positivity rate over ten percent.”

Gonsalves said apart from those factors; others include the number of young persons contracting COVID-19 and the sharp increase in deaths.

In just over a week, he said the island had recorded eight deaths or at least once a day. This Gonsalves is seriously worrying.

“Teachers, parents, and the general public have called for us to include teachers on the list. The regulations have a life, that is throughout the pandemic”, Gonsalves said.
