Venezuelan Foreign Affairs Minister Yvan Gil denounced the involvement of the United States in the activities of groups aiming to destabilize the Bolivarian nation.
“Venezuela categorically rejects the cynical statement from the State Department regarding the recent deactivation of terrorist operations that sought to destabilize the country and sow acts of violence,” he said.
“The U.S. government has lost its moral compass. While, on the one hand, it seeks to condemn Venezuela for taking actions to preserve peace within the framework of the Constitution and laws, on the other hand, it arrests truly peaceful protesters against the genocide in Gaza and seeks to curtail their freedom of expression”.
“With such a lack of coherence, it is not surprising that Washington advocates in favor of the architects of the frustrated terrorist operations in Venezuela and even gives them its complicit position,” Gil stated, noticing that the U.S. defense of such destabilizing actions encourages violence and threatens the normal development of the 2024 electoral process.

Venezuela Activates Plan to Neutralize Coup Attempts
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro called for the activation of the “Bolivarian Fury,” a plan to neutralize coup attempts and defend peace.
Addressing thousands of citizens participating in the march commemorating the 66th anniversary of the fall of the Marcos Perez Jimenez dictatorship on January 23, 1958, he assured that he would continue to govern the country with the support of the people.
“Nothing will stop me. I will continue in the streets and in the battle. I will continue to protect you, and… I will continue to govern this country with the support of the people,” Maduro said, reiterating that the Chavista people will triumph again in the 2024 presidential elections.
The Bolivarian president urged citizens to be alert to new conspiratorial plans involving the far-right opposition, which include the assassination of the Venezuelan president and high-ranking state officials.
“If someday the fascists attack me, I leave it in your hands to do what you have to do to restore justice and peace in Venezuela. Activate the Bolivarian Fury!” he said, referring to a security plan to neutralize acts of destabilization and terrorism.
“This is the roar of a people willing to defend the homeland with their own lives,” Maduro said.

Venezuela and Guyana Adress the Essequibo Issue in Brazil
On Thursday, Foreign Affairs Ministers Yvan Gil (Venezuela) and Hugh Todd (Guyana) meet in Brasilia to continue the dialogue between their countries and ease tensions caused by the territorial dispute related to the Essequibo region.
This is the first high-level bilateral meeting since Dec. 14, 2023, when Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and Guyanese President Irfaan Ali held talks in St. Vincent & the Grenadines.
The encounter is mediated by Brazilian Foreign Affairs Minister Mauro Vieira and representatives from the governments of St. Vincent & the Grenadines and Dominica.
Upon arrival in Brasilia, FM Gil expressed that the Venezuelan delegation comes with a “spirit of goodwill” and hopes that the Guyanese diplomats arrive with the same attitude.
He said that the discussions will be based on agreements that contemplate “avoiding the possibility of involving foreign military powers” and channeling the entire dispute within the framework of international law.
The Essequibo is an area of 160,000 square kilometers rich in natural resources, oil, and minerals. Late last year, tensions between Venezuela and Guyana escalated due to the presence of a UK warship in the area.
In response to this, President Maduro ordered the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB) to deploy 5,682 soldiers, 28 aircraft, and 16 vessels for a series of military exercises. Previously, through a referendum held on December, Venezuelans ratified their country’s sovereignty over the Essequibo region and their willingness to defend it.
In this area, transnational oil companies such as ExxonMobil are currently carrying out energy projects, even though the territorial dispute has not yet been resolved.
