The number one issue in SVG use to be Jobs, now its crime. This according to the leader of the Opposition Dr Godwin Friday.
Friday on Thursday night said, the two issues have been twined, and Vincentians are now feeling the effects.
He said if the government does not respond to citizens plight, they will raise the tempo.
“We are going to raise the level of public awareness, even more, that is why we took the unprecedented step as a political party, to walk the Leeward coast to make the government take stock”.
“To those cynics who feel you cannot end crime tomorrow, or give someone a job tomorrow by walking, I say, these people they are many of them all over this county and they have not accomplish noting”
Commenting on the ongoing issue in Canouan where some 200 persons could lose employment today. Friday asked. Why is it that Canouan is always in the news with these issues.
“You have two developers one in the North and one in South and whenever they have a quarrel the workers are always the one to get the worst of it”.
“And the government stands back, allowing them to just fight between themselves, not caring one darm about the people who get crushed in the middle”.
The opposition does not have the tools to solve it, however, we go there and speak with the individuals that are in charge and let them know they need to get the matter resolved, Friday lamented.
“The government need to talk a stand on the matter because the investment is being unrealized, am sure the developers would love to see returns on their investments”.
Friday said there is a small primary school in Canouan which does not require any vast amount of land, why should that be an issue over and over.
“The developer in the North have so many lands in Canouan, they are the biggest landowners in Canouan, and they cannot find a half acre to put the school on, they have to encroach on public land”.
The people need there playing field we cannot allow such thing to happen, Friday said.
“Find another solution, and find it quickly so that the people can go back to work”, Friday said.
