Medical student Kaitlyn Sahatoo recently represented Trinidad and Tobago in an elite international space program held in India, where she collaborated with global scientists on the ShaktiSat Mission.
This initiative provided hands-on training in satellite engineering and payload development to thousands of young women from over one hundred countries. Sahatoo’s involvement in the project may result in her nation’s flag reaching the moon during a lunar mission scheduled for October.
While she remains dedicated to her medical studies, Sahatoo is interested in how space technology can be integrated into healthcare to improve local medical systems.
Her mentors emphasize that this experience should serve as a foundation for building STEM opportunities and international partnerships for the next generation of Caribbean researchers.
This mission highlights the growing role of women in science and the ambition of smaller nations to participate in global space exploration.
