Residents and visitors in St. Vincent and the Grenadines should prepare for a shift in weather patterns as a tropical wave is expected to impact the islands this Friday.
According to the latest outlook issued by Meteorological Forecaster Gregory Cato on July 1st, the islands will transition from relatively fair, hazy conditions into a wetter period by the end of the week.
The forecast for Thursday, July 2nd, remains largely unchanged from current conditions, with fair to partly cloudy and breezy weather expected. While some isolated showers may occur, the primary feature will be a slight Saharan dust haze currently crossing the islands.
Weather conditions are set to deteriorate on Friday, July 3rd, as a tropical wave moves across the region. The Meteorological Services predicts cloudy and breezy conditions accompanied by showers and possible isolated thunderstorms. On a positive note, the concentration of Saharan dust is expected to decrease temporarily on Friday before returning over the weekend.
By Saturday, July 4th, lingering instability will continue to cause showers across the islands. The day is expected to be partly cloudy to cloudy and breezy, with the Saharan dust haze returning to the area. Wind speeds are also projected to increase to approximately 40 km/h.
Small craft operators and sea bathers are strongly urged to exercise caution due to above-normal sea swells and the potential for occasional gusty winds.
