Chaguanas resident Ketonia Dominique, 25, became the first locally trained female commercial pilot on July 11, after completing her training to attain her commercial pilot licence.
The journey was challenging due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but Dominique persevered and made it to her classes at Camden Airfield, Couva, where she trained with Aerial World Services Limited.
Her parents, Broderick Bacchus and Ketina Dominique-Bacchus, along with her grandfather Mervyn Dominique, played a pivotal role in her growth and development. Dominique’s mother and grandfather also provided encouragement and support throughout her journey.
Dominicique, a 25-year-old pilot, has achieved her commercial license and plans to pursue a multi-engine instrument rating and further her tertiary education.
She aims to fly for Caribbean Airlines and is grateful for the opportunity to share her story. To become a pilot, one must be at least 16 years old, have five CXC passes, and pass all medical exams.
Dominicique encourages young women to dream big, put God first, and work hard, with faith and perseverance.
