The Judicial and Legal Services Commission has appointed two new magistrates for St. Vincent (SVG).
Speaking on state radio on March 20, Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves announced the appointment of a senior magistrate and a magistrate.
“The two appointees are Vincentian women, with the appointment of the senior magistrate in a permanent capacity, while the individual appointed to serve as magistrate will do so temporarily for one year,” Gonsalves said in a statement.
Three vacancies became available recently, since Gonsalves noted that the judiciary is currently understaffed.
Gonsalves stated that he is unsure what will happen with chief magistrate Rechanne Browne, namely if she will continue as a judge or return to her job as chief magistrate.
Browne is currently the High Court Judge (Ag) for St. Lucia.
