Education Media Unit, St. Vincent and the Grenadines – August 27 – Government-owned and assisted schools across the country have been receiving upgrades under the annual Upgrading of School Premises project.
The project has been implemented by the Roads Buildings and General Services Authority (BRAGSA), under the supervision of the Ministry of Transport and Works.
BRAGSA’s Chief Executive Officer, Kem Bartholomew, says With just a few days to the reopening of schools, contractors are working assiduously and that schools are expected to be ready for the start of the new academic year.
Over six (6) million Eastern Caribbean dollars has been invested in the upgrade of school premises this year, as compared to 1.3 million in 2017 and 1.4 million in 2018. In light of this investment, the Ministry of Education is appealing to key stakeholders to take care of the schools and all educational resources.
In speaking about damage to school property; Myccle Burke, Permanent Secretary (Ag.) in the Ministry of Education, highlights section 145 of the Education Act.
Chief Education Officer, Elizabeth Walker, says that the Ministry is encouraging strategies that will influence positive behaviours to prevent damage to school property in the first place.
