As of January 5, 2026, the U.S. State Department increased the travel advisory for Grenada to Level 2: Exercise Increased Caution.

This update included the addition of a “crime” risk indicator, the removal of specific “areas of increased risk,” and a general update to the advisory summary.

The primary reason for the increased advisory level is the risk of crime. The sources provide the following details regarding the security situation.

According to the State Department violent crimes can occur anywhere on the island. American citizens have specifically been victims of armed robbery, assault, burglary, and rape, and in some instances, have been killed, the release noted.

Travelers are warned that local police response times are often slower than what one might expect in the United States.

The report also states that there has been a reported increase in thefts from yachts, specifically targeting cash and navigation equipment, particularly along the southern shore.

Data from Grenada shows only 10 homicides occurred on the island for 2025, with all cases being solved.
