Christmas season is easily the most caring and giving season in the Caribbean. The University of the West Indies Open Campus STAT Ambassador Renitta Peters-Morris has embarked on a campaign to assist the Salvation Army`s annual Christmas Kettle programme during the month of December 2018.
Every Friday during for the month of December, Mrs. Peters-Morris greeted persons at the kettle stationed at the Singer store during the busy lunch period and asked for donations to aid the organization’s programmes.
Major Pierre Antoine of the Salvation Army (St. Vincent and the Grenadines) had high praises for the assistance given by Mrs. Peters-Morris in expressing his gratitude for the work performed by Mrs. Peters-Morris, in getting shoppers during the busy Christmas season to donate cash towards the institution’s social programmes.
“Mrs. Peters did a tremendous job. She knows how to communicate with the people,” Major Antoine stated. “I heard that her approach was very good. She is a talented young woman. I do believe that she has a lot of abilities where she can get things done.”
Mrs. Peters-Morris indicated that she decided to do the kettle because of her desire to give back to her community in a meaningful way. She highlighted the positive responses received especially from the children who often stopped and asked to ring the bell with her.
The Salvation Army has been feeding the homeless and elderly in St.Vincent and the Grenadines for a number of years and many persons have benefited from their donations through their annual Christmas Day luncheon and Christmas parcels.
Major Antoine believes that more citizens should take some time off to assist in the Kettle Programme. “I believe that other people should join Mrs. Peters-Morris and encourage other people to give more and more.”
