Venezuelan fuel shipments to SVG expected to resume in July

St. Vincent can expect fuel shipments from Venezuela in July, this following discussions with President Maduro in April on the Petrocaribe agreement, according to Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves.

Gonsalves announced in April that Petrocaribe would be restarted with a 35 percent discount on fuel prices in participating countries.

The Prime Minister said Venezuela is sending a team this month to figure out the modalities of the fuel shipments for Lowman’s Bay.

“We are working on getting the diesel delivered to Vinlec for the Lowmans Bay Plant with the promise of a 35% discount. “So I am hoping that the fuel will relieve the pressure immediately, and also that, as the rains return, the hydroelectric plants will be able to produce more power”.

Petrocaribe currently includes 18 Caribbean nations. The alliance was formed on 29 June 2005, with Venezuela providing oil supplies on a concessionary basis.

On his return from Venezuela on April 26, Gonsalves also stated that urea would be delivered weekly to be used in agricultural fertilizers and free asphalt would be provided for road repair.
