Vincentian denied bail remanded to prison in Antigua

35-year-old Steve Brown of St Vincent who was part of a quartet caught with importing drugs into Antigua,was denied bail and remanded to prison.

The quartet was arraigned last week, charged with drug trafficking, possession and possession with intent to transfer the controlled substance and being concerned in the supply of almost 700 pounds of the controlled substance.

A total of 697 pounds of compressed cannabis was seized when the law enforcement agency conducted a counter-drug operation in the Big Creek and Golden Grove areas last week.

The drugs, believed to have originated in St Vincent, carries an estimated street value of $1,395,250.

Committal proceedings are set for October 19; at that time the magistrate will make a determination of whether there is sufficient case for the matter to be tried in the High Court.
