(TheNewToday) – A Vincentian man, implicated in a $4m cocaine bust in August 2019, has been granted bail in the sum of $500, 000.00 with two sureties, along with $50, 000.00 cash bail, after spending close to five months as an inmate on the remand block at the Richmond Hill Prison.
Elvis Dexter Chance was remanded to prison by then Chief Magistrate Tamara Gill, who refused to grant bail to him on grounds relating to the prosecution’s belief that his arrest has helped to crack open a major drug ring operating in the Caribbean.
Informed sources have said that the security forces in several regional islands have since contacted the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) to congratulate them on the arrest of Chance, who is considered as a major drug lord in the region.
However, when the matter came up before Acting Chief Magistrate Teddy St. Louis at the St. George’s No. 1 Magistrate’s Court on St. John’s Street last week Friday, a decision was taken to grant bail to him following the successful application by his legal counsel, Attorney-at-Law George Prime.
As part of his bail conditions, the Vincentian who is said to have ties to the southern part of the island, was also ordered to report to the South St. George Police Station twice weekly, surrender all his travel documents and request permission from the court to leave the state.
Chance was the only Vincentian in a group of four (4) men including Grenadian-born Bernard Spann, 46, from Belmont St. George and two (2) Jamaican nationals Ian White, 53, and Alrick Reynolds, 48, who were nabbed by members of the Drug Squad last August in connection with the seizure of 40 kilos of Cocaine at Dr. Grooms, Point Salines.
