Safiya Quamina, who is currently a student at Monroe College’s School of Business and Accounting in New York. Safiya was recently part of a five-person team – comprising international students, mostly from the Caribbean – that won top honors at a prestigious business case study contest.
Safiya is a member of her college’s National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) student chapter, and competed in NABA’s New York Fall Case Study competition on Dec. 8. Hosted at “Big Four” accounting firm Deloitte’s headquarters in New York City, the annual contest provides a competitive forum for students to showcase their qualitative, quantitative, and communication skills.
During the competition, participating teams are given a real-world business challenge with business and accounting implications.
They must then develop and present strategic response recommendations before a panel of judges, who were obviously impressed this year by the Monroe team!
Safiya and her teammates will be honored at the NABA NY Annual Scholarship & Awards Gala in the spring. Additionally, she’ll be eligible to interview for an internship or mentorship program with Deloitte.
