Vincentians Living In The UK Urged To Donate To Weather System Relief Drive

Vincy Alliance a group consisting of Vincentians living in the United Kingdom is urgently appealing to citizens residing there for help and assistance in supporting the residents affected by the recent storm activities in Sandy Bay and other areas in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves said at a news conference that the Ministry of Transport and Works and the Ministry of Housing was still quantifying the damage.

Giving a preliminary update the Prime Minister said three homes were destroyed; 102 were damaged due to flooding and landslides; 25 retaining walls either collapsed or were damaged and four public buildings were flooded.

The group in a release stated how persons can help  1. Pack a box (any size) with tin food, clothes (decent) or both and drop it to your nearest collection point (which will be confirmed)

2. On the 17th of  December, the boxes will be collected from each designated center and carried to the port ready for shipping.

3. The boxes will be distributed to the affected locals in St.Vincent and the Grenadines, Vincy Alliance is now looking for volunteers for the following areas to become pick up points: If you wish to be a pickup  point please confirm by 9th December 2016.

Portsmouth, High Wycombe, London, Luton, Reading, are all areas designated for pickup. Transport to the Portsmouth Harbour is also still outstanding the group release stated.

The group noted that once names and locations have been confirmed this will be shared with individuals.

In the meantime, the group is urging persons to proceed with packing a box donation. More information can be obtained on the organization  Facebook page.
