While speaking on the Budget Estimates 2022 on Tuesday, Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves says, we have become too selfish as a people.

Gonsalves said from his own money, he sent Geccu a cheque of $18500 in late October to provide for 370 students who had just finished grade 6 and entered secondary school.

“Students from North Windward, North Leeward and North Central, those affected by La Soufriere eruption. What I want to do, and Geccu has agreed to put for those who are already members, over (80) of them, to put fifty dollars additional, because I want to encourage thrift and savings, among the youngsters”.

“For those who are currently in grade six, I want to do the same for them,(124) of them in the five schools in Colonaire and (119) from North Windward, and I should get the names from North Leeward soon”.

“Everybody is my neighbour, the book of Luke (New Testament) tells me that, and you see this season, how can we best commemorate this Christmas? The best way we can do it is just to help somebody”.

“You can’t help everybody, it’s purely a practical matter, but each of us who is in a better position than some others can help”.

“So this season of peace and goodwill lets us give a little, you may not be able to give everybody, but you can give to somebody”, Gonsalves said.
