October is world blindness awareness month, October 15th is celebrated as White Cane Day.
The mission of White Cane Day is to educate the world about blindness and how the blind and visually impaired can live and work independently while giving back to their communities, to celebrate the abilities and successes achieved by blind people in a sighted world and to honor the many contributions being made by the blind and visually impaired.
Celebrating this day here in St Vincent will help to educate and bring awareness to the Vincentian society about the use of the White Cane and their blind, visually impaired brothers and sisters living here in the society.
To celebrate World White Cane Day; Voice of the Disabled will be holding a march and rally in Kingstown to mark this day.
The march will begin from Peace Memorial Hall on Monday, October 15th, 2018 at 10 am and end at the Solidarity Car Park, located next to the Ministerial Building, with a rally.
The March and Rally is being put on by Voice of the Disabled (VOD). This organization is to advocate on behalf of every person with a disability in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
The role of this organization is to: advocate, educate, socialize rehabilitate, training and to bring awareness to the Vincentian public about persons with disabilities.
