St. Vincent Electricity Services Limited (VINLEC) has concluded its initial assessment of the power outage that affected several areas on mainland, St. Vincent during the early hours of Monday, 7th September 2026.
The outage occurred at approximately 12:09am and was caused by a line fault that disrupted the electricity connection between the Lowmans Bay and Cane Hall Power Stations. Investigations determined that this unexpected fault resulted from wildlife coming into contact with energised electrical equipment.
In June an early-morning power disruption across mainland St. Vincent was also triggered by wildlife coming into contact with energized electrical equipment.
While the incident resulted in a loss of electricity supply to customers in several areas across the island, it was not an island-wide outage. Our technical teams responded immediately, carrying out necessary inspections and system checks before progressively restoring electricity to affected customers. Full restoration was completed at approximately 2:23am.
VINLEC sincerely apologises for the inconvenience caused by the outage and thanks all customers for their patience and understanding as our teams worked to safely restore the affected sections of the system to normalcy. We continue to assess incidents of this nature, and implement measures aimed at strengthening the resilience of our network to better serve all customers.
