- The Caribbean woman is celebrated in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines with a Poetic Song
Poetry, music, dance and Venezuelan arepas were combined, at the Embassy in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), to celebrate the power, greatness, intelligence and beauty of women who every day with their effort make the world work.
On March 21, in the spaces of the Diplomatic Mission, Caribbean companions gathered to receive a tribute for International Women’s Day, International Poetry Day and the Day of the Abolition of Slavery in Venezuela, with the third edition of “A poetic song to the Caribbean woman.”
Cultors, singers, musicians, dancers and poets attended the appointment held by the Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in SVG, through the Venezuelan Institute for Culture and Cooperation “Hugo Chávez Frías” (IVCC), with the aim of strengthening the Latin American and Caribbean values through art and culture.
The head of the Venezuelan diplomatic mission in SVG, Francisco Pérez Santana, evoked the Commander of the Bolivarian Revolution, Hugo Chávez, and his feminist action: “the love that he always showed for women, we must take it into account and learn from him. Chávez said that ‘without the true liberation of women, the full liberation of the peoples would be impossible, and I am convinced that a true socialist must also be a true feminist’. We have mothers and they are the most important thing for us, if you have a mother you know that we must respect all women,” he said.
Marlon Joseph, representative of the social movement “Solidarity”, declaimed three unpublished poems in tribute to women; then, he gave his turn to the student of the IVCC workshop of Cuatro (music instrument), Mark John, who delighted those present with the Polo Margariteño, “El cantar tiene Sentido”, learned under the tutelage of the academic coordinator of the Institute and teacher of Cuatro; Andreína Bermúdez Di Lorenzo.
To continue, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of the Vincentian government declaimed a poem that she wrote within the framework of International Women’s Day. Then, the cult woman. representant Maxine Browne declaimed the famous poem “Fenomenal Woman”, by the writer Maya Angelou.
Saxophonist Oswald Williams delighted the women present with a three-piece musical interlude. Dennise Stephenson, vice president of the social movement “Solidarity”, read the poem “I am a Woman” and Ancelma Morgan put her ideas in a poem about female resilience and empowerment.
The president of the International Council of Women, Beverly Richards, read three poems in tribute to women’s strength; followed by the parliamentary secretary of the Office of the Prime Minister of SVG, Shackell Bobb, who surprised the guests by reading “I’m still getting up”, also authored by Maya Angelou.
The musical performances of the famous violinist Darron Andrews; the soca singer, Hance John and the group “Resistance Heartbeat Drummers” made everyone dance to the rhythm of soca and drums, to close the cultural evening with a finishing touch.
This meeting strengthens the cultural exchange between the two Caribbean peoples, through the Bolivarian cultural diplomacy of peace, in the search to carry the identity values of the people and the Bolivarian Government around the world.
