Work is expected to begin on Sandals Beaches Resorts in St Vincent during the month of November. This was disclosed by the Minister of Finance, the Hon. Camillo Gonsalves.
“I spoke to the principals at Sandals resorts, they have awarded their contract to the main contractor, that contractor is on the ground at the moment, he and his team are setting up to begin work this month”.
“They’re renting some apartments from locals on the Leeward side of the island for their upper-level managers, engineers and the like. Some of their equipment is on the sea coming in, and they have begun their process of vetting local contractors”.
US $120 million will be expended during the rehabilitation of the former Buccament Bay resort.
Minister Gonsalves said that it is anticipated in five months that there will be approximately seven hundred Vincentians working on the construction.
Gonsalves also stated that upon completion of the resort, it would be home to over one thousand guests and provide employment to over seven hundred Vincentians.
This will mark the fourth Beaches Resort and expansion into the eighth Caribbean destination.
