2 Min Read

The St Vincent police force is expected to divulge information on what sources say is an accidental shooting of a Special Services Unit officer by his colleague during a predawn raid at a house in the village of Chauncey on Saturday (June 14).

The officer has been identified as Artwell (Andre) John and hails from the community of Calder.

Sources indicated to St. Vincent Times that John was shot in the chest and was flown to Trinidad on Saturday night for medical intervention, which was not available at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital.

According to informed sources, John was experiencing trouble with breathing. A medical personnel informed St Vincent Times on Saturday evening that when an individual experiences difficulty breathing following a gunshot wound, it may suggest injury to the lungs or liver.

St Vincent Times also learnt on Sunday evening that John was seemingly shot at close range during the predawn operation. It is not clear if the officers were wearing protective gear.

St Vincent Times understands that another person injured in the raid is currently receiving treatment at the hospital.

The incident took place during the police’s search for unregistered firearms and ammunition.

The police on Saturday posted to Facebook that their press conference on Monday (June 15) is to provide updates on matters of national interest and recent policing operations.
