Gillian Scott-Ward is a clinical psychologist based in New York City in the United States. Her Ph.D. thesis examined representations of persons of African descent in film and its effects on individuals and communities.
She is also the director of a documentary filmed on location in South Africa, the USA and France which explores the natural hair movement and its relevance to post-colonial societies/people.
There will be a screening of her film “Back to Natural” at the headquarters of the National Trust at the Carnegie Building/Old Public Library on Wednesday, 19th December 2018 at 4:30 p.m.
There will be no cover charge for the screening of the film and you may invite anyone who may be interested in the topic it covers to attend.
The intention is to provoke discussion in societies such as ours about the pervasiveness of colonial retentions with particular reference to standards of beauty and how that affects our well-being.
