As Christmas Day fades into the night the island of Bequia prepares for its next big event, Old Years Night celebrations.
Of course, you may celebrate anyplace in the world, but there is only one spot in the world where you can feel at home for the new year, and that is Bequia.
In St Vincent and the Grenadines, New Year’s Eve is more generally (and understandably!) referred to as Old Year’s Night, and Bequia knows how to “ring out the old and ring in the new”!
The harbour fills with visiting yachts, and celebrations ashore take place in every restaurant and bar—everything is taken out for this one special night of the year.
The evening’s climax is a stunning fireworks show above Bequia Harbour. It’s a holiday climax that no one will want to miss, made possible by the generosity of private individuals and Bequia’s corporate sector.
Midnight is welcomed by a sky filled with fireworks and flares, popping corks, and warm embraces—and then the real partying begins!
There is yet an opportunity to partake in the festivities; you might still have a chance to secure accommodations. If not, board the numerous ferries available on December 31st and revel until dawn. If you share my preference, you will position yourself in close proximity to the almond tree to ensure catching the ferry on the morning of January 1st, thereby returning to the mainland.
Looking forward to meeting you in Bequia!
