- DOMINICA-DEATH-Hospital to launch investigation into death of nurse
The Dominica Hospitals Authority (DHA) Tuesday said it would appoint an external team of professionals to immediately conduct “a thorough and impartial fact-finding review” of the circumstances surrounding the death of a nurse at the facility last weekend.
“We acknowledge the numerous comments and concerns raised in the public domain and wish to make it fundamentally clear that many of the comments provide an inaccurate account of the events,” the DHA said in a statement.
“We take all reports, whether official or unofficial, seriously and remain committed to ensuring transparency and accountability in all matters concerning the functions and operations of the Hospital,” the DHA said, adding “our priority is to uphold the highest standards of care and integrity within our hospitals”.
While it did not provide details regarding the death of the unidentified nurse, the DHA said it “acknowledges the heightened public interest surrounding the recent passing of one of our nurses, who was both a valued member of our team and a patient of the Dominica China Friendship Hospital.
“We take this opportunity to extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, as well as to our staff and colleagues of the deceased nurse. It is indeed a difficult time for everyone and our prayers and best wishes are with all those who have been impacted in any way,” it said, adding that the Health, Wellness and Social Services Minister, Cassanni Laville, and senior hospital officials provided support to ”our team members, the bereaved family, and other associates of our late colleague”.
