- No electricity at Thomas Saunders Secondary School
Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves said on Wednesday that earlier this week, it was brought to his attention that the temporary Thomas Sanders secondary school at Arnos Vale was without electricity.
An iWitness news report on January 15 stated that the information technology lab and other classrooms at the temporary building housing the school at the tarmac of the decommissioned E.T. Joshua airport have been without electricity for months.
Gonsalves said he was very firm with those in the state agencies who are responsible for matters such as these; however, the matter is being addressed.
“The situation is being addressed; they’ll purchase all the materials, but if, for instance, you can’t clearly identify the actual source of the fault, well, rewire the whole place. We’re not an NGO, and if the person you sent couldn’t figure it out, there are other people.”
“I made it clear that I am highly dissatisfied with that, but they’re working on it. I was upset, too, that one of the state agencies that should have informed me didn’t. Sometimes public servants among themselves think they can solve issues, but if a week passes and the issue is not solved, there’s a bottleneck, and I’m a good clearer of bottlenecks; that’s part of my work.”
Gonsalves said you construct a building for $2 million and turn around and try to penny pinch in dealing with an electrical problem.
He further stated that in a school where students in one section don’t have electricity, it is a matter of great importance.
