- Caribbean Digital Transformational Project- Revolutionary!
Minister of Finance Hon. Camillo Gonsalves has praised the Caribbean Digital Transformational Project, noting that it will change the way business is done, making services more efficient and accessible.
Speaking on radio on Sunday, the Information Technology Minister said in 2023, there was a pilot project to deal with business registration through the Commercial and Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) and by March 2024, income tax payments can be done online.
“We want to revolutionise the way in which citizens interact with the state…saving you from lining up at Income tax to get something….to make the citizen interaction with the state more seamless, take out your phone, get an APP and that APP will allow you to clear a barrel at the port, renew your passport, get a driver’s license…and make all of those services available to the public with a smartphone,” Minister Gonsalves explained.
He added that the project will be done incrementally, soon customs and registry will be added, as well as other parts of the Government service.
The Caribbean Digital Transformational Project is being funded through the World Bank and is being implemented in the Commonwealth of Dominica, Grenada, St. Lucia and St Vincent and the Grenadines.
The aim is to increase access to digital services, technologies and skills by governments, businesses and individuals in participating countries within the Organisation of Easter Caribbean States (OECS) subregion.
