- PM to meet with fishermen, Vendors at Buccament Bay Today
As Sandals gets set for its opening in March, the government here is ensuring that all persons plying their trade at Buccament Bay will co-exist in a peaceful and prosperous manner.
Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves said on Wednesday he would meet with fishermen and vendors on Thursday to discuss vending activities.
“We have to make sure that everything is done there in an orderly manner so that everybody will benefit. Vending on the beaches is an issue for which there’s a law that has been brought into being since 1991–1992, which has been observed in the breach.”.
“People have not been paying attention to it, but we have to make sure that throughout the country there is order; otherwise, just a handful of people are going to jeopardise a product that we have to sell, which everybody has to make a living off.”
Gonsalves said there are six beautiful shops ready to give out on Buccament Bay, and the government will put other structures in place.
“What is down there is a gold mine for everybody. Metaphorically, we have to work hard at it.”.
“The opportunity is there to make a good living. Independent operators, taxi men, and minibus operators. People selling crafts, entertainers, farmers, and fishermen, and those are apart from the workers themselves. but we can’t have the vending done in a chaotic manner,” Gonsalves said.
