The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Meteorological Services has issued a formal Small-Craft Advisory as a tropical wave prepares to cross the islands. The advisory is scheduled to be in effect from 12:00 noon Wednesday, July 8, until 12:00 noon Thursday, July 9, 2026.
Forecasters expect the tropical wave to impact the region starting Wednesday evening. The system is likely to bring cloudy skies, gusty winds, and moderate-to-heavy showers accompanied by thunderstorm activity through Thursday morning.
Wind speeds are anticipated to be moderate-to-fresh, averaging 25–35 km/h, but could surge with gusts reaching up to 45 km/h on Wednesday night.
Marine conditions are expected to deteriorate significantly, becoming moderate-to-rough. Swell heights are forecast as follows:
- East of the islands: 2.5 meters (8 feet) to 3.0 meters (10 feet).
- West of the islands: 1.5 meters (5 feet) to 1.8 meters (6 feet).
Due to these rough seas, authorities warn that conditions will become unsafe for small-craft operators and sea-bathers, particularly along the northern and eastern coastlines. Official guidance explicitly advises sea-bathers to stay out of the water during this period.
The Meteorological Services noted that weather and sea conditions may become more adverse during high tide. High-tide times to watch include:
- Wednesday, July 8: 12:23 PM and 11:57 PM.
- Thursday, July 9: 1:01 PM.
A Small-Craft Advisory is standard when sustained winds reach between 37 and 46 km/h or sea swells reach the 2.5 to 3.0-meter range
