Prior to the closing of the Farmland Restoration Project 2022-2023, funded by the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Conservation Fund, Hand2Earth is hosting a short community event to recognize the contribution of its participant farmers to the project’s achievements.
The event will comprise a slide presentation and accounts from the farmers participants of their experiences.
The event will start at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 22, at the Cumberland Recreational Facility.
Soon after the volcanic eruption in April 2021, having observed that vetiver grass plants were unaffected by the heavy ash fall that destroyed other vegetation in the disaster zone, local NGO Hand2Earth designed a project for soil regeneration using vetiver systems technology.
The project brought attention to the fascinating, yet forgotten, legacy of contour farming with vetiver in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
