A handful of Opposition supporters took to the streets of capital city Kingstown to protest the decision handed down by the court on two elections petitions which the party brought to the court seeking to overturn the results in the North Windward and Central Leeward constituency.
In a judgement, on Thursday morning Justice Stanley John dismissed the petitions and ruled that Montgomery Daniel and Louis Straker who ran on the Unity Labour Party ticket were validly returned as duly elected representatives in the 2015 elections.
Following the judgement opposition now in a defeated mood took to the streets of the capital holding up traffic for brief periods at a time.
The police in their attempt to control the handful of protesters refused on using any force, however, pleaded with protesters to occupy one lane on which they did not comply.
In a fit of rage, a number of protesters dismantled the barricades erected by the police, in the presence of the leader of the Opposition who apparently tried to restrain supporters, the outcome, however, showed he had little influence on their behavior.
The Commissioner of Police who was on hand was briefly assaulted by about four protesters who pointed their hands into his face while hurling expletives, at the time of such incident the COP was begging protesters to clear the road so as to allow vehicular traffic.
It is not clear at this time if any charges would be laid against such protesters.
Meanwhile in an attempt to show his disgust at the outcome of the election petitions Opposition MP Nigel Stevenson in a post on facebook wrote what many are now considering as “Contempt of Court”.
