Montserrat Volcano Observatory Director, Dr. Graham Ryan was honoured in Lancaster’s Great Hall today on (December 16th 2022).
Graham Ryan is the first Montserratian to lead the observatory. He worked at the British Geological Survey, University of Auckland, and University of the West Indies.
Graham’s interest in the Soufriere Hills volcano is personal: the 1995-2013 eruptions on Montserrat affected his family and other islanders.
Graham’s research includes the first three-dimensional model of Montserrat’s geothermal system since the eruptions, a vital step toward tapping the island’s geothermal energy potential.
