Mudflows disrupts water supply to several Northern Villages

2 Min Read

Mudflows are disrupting the water intake to the Perseverance water treatment facility, according to the Central Water and Sewage Authority (CWSA) in St Vincent (SVG).

Because of the excessive amounts of silt in the incoming system, the treatment area remains blocked.

The localities whose pipe-borne water supply will be affected include those in the northern quarter of the island, near the foothills of the La Soufriere volcano.

According to the CWSA, they will continue to continuously monitor the quality of water entering the intake and will reopen the system once the raw water quality is adequate.

“We will also continue to deliver water to the affected communities with assistance from NEMO until the pipe-borne water service is fully restored and normalised.” .

The CWSA is advising residents in affected areas to collect water in containers that are:

Sterilised and can be securely covered.

Large enough to contain a supply of two to five gallons

per person in your household.

Not previously used to store harmful chemicals

Not brought by children who may not be able to carry full containers.

“We wish to thank consumers for their patience and understanding as we continue to monitor the situation and work tirelessly towards a full system restoration.
