National Bank of Dominica Ltd Sweeps 2022 ECCU Bank of the Year Awards
The National Bank of Dominica Ltd. (NBD) won all five of the 2022 Bank of the Year Awards during the virtual ceremony, which was broadcast live on the ECCB Connects Facebook page and YouTube channel on December 15.
The Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) honours the commercial banks that are part of the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union (ECCU) every year for their outstanding banking services and evidence of civic engagement in their local communities. For the competition to determine the 2022 Bank of the Year, eight commercial banks submitted submissions in the following five categories:
Corporate Social Responsibility;
Customer Service;
Financial Education and Empowerment;
Support to Micro Small and Medium Enterprises; and
Technological Innovation.
Five of the eight participating banks were chosen to move on to the interview round, which accounted for 30% of their final score. The public also provided feedback on the banks through online voting, giving them the chance to raise their overall score by 20 points. In her remarks at the awards event, Head Judge Kechewia Charles stated that “the competition was of a very high calibre and tightly contested, which supports the strong quality of the ECCU commercial banking sector.”
Commercial banks were praised for their sustained efforts in a number of areas, including technological innovation, by Officer-in-Charge of the ECCB, D Tracy Polius. “The epidemic drove the financial system to give technology adoption and bolstering cyber security more importance both globally and even within the ECCU. Customers are becoming more accustomed to these technological advancements in banking, and in the post-pandemic period, they are now considered conventional expectations, according to Polius. The ECCB strives to assist commercial banks in their efficient use of technology while reducing risks like operational and cyber security, she added.
