- NDP announces next phase of the National Athlete Programme
Members of the New Democratic Party (NDP) will be meeting with sports bodies and people with strong expertise in sports as we seek to develop our National Athlete Programme. Earlier this month, we the party announced that we it would create a programme, similar to the National Scholars’ Programme, to support national athletes.
Member of Parliament for East Kingstown, Dwight ‘Fitz’ Bramble who shadows sports for the party said, “The feedback about the programme has been overwhelmingly positive and we have so many people who have put forward ideas to develop this programme and the wider sports policy to support young athletes, provide opportunities and ultimately help sports become a major social and economic enginebooster for our country.”
Bramble added, “Today we announce that we will be undertaking a series of meetings with sports organisation and people with expertise to help us ensure that the policy will be targeted, effective and efficient. While we have set the broad parameters our aim now is to work with people on the ground to ensure we deliver something that works. Over the coming weeks, we will be talking with as many persons as possible whose ideas and suggestions will feed into our final policy document. Anyone who wants to offer support can do so.”
The NDP is committed to the development of sports in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
