Rescuers have recovered dozens of bodies from buses and vehicles buried in the landslides, while the death toll is expected to rise as more reports come in from villages across the mountainous country.

The Nepal police have stated that 101 people have been injured and 50 are missing.

The government has closed schools and colleges across Nepal for the next three days, while police and soldiers are assisting with rescue efforts.

The situation is expected to worsen as water levels recede in the southern part of Kathmandu.
