Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves last week visited the 620-million-dollar Port Modernisation Project. Accompanying him was Minister of Urban Development Hon.  Bernarva Browne and participants from the Women in Construction project initiated by Aecon, the construction company on the project.

The contingent visited the three-story administrative building which will comprise offices for customs, immigration, financial services and canteens.

The Prime Minister was also introduced to personnel on site who were retained from the Youth Empowerment Service and the Support for Education and Training (SET) programmes.

Aecon’s women in construction project encourages young women in secondary schools, students at the Technical and Vocational centres and graduates of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Community College to pursue careers in construction and offers internships to these people.

The Port modernization Project is expected to be completed by May 2025. It is the second largest capital project in this country’s history.
