St Vincent is among four Caribbean countries who will benefit from a substantial donation of used breathing units, air bottles and face masks made possible by the Lindsey Volunteer Fire Department in Ohio USA.
Lindsey Fire Chief Russ Zimmerman said Tuesday the department has coordinated with Cincinnati firefighter Walter Cook on the donation effort.
Cook has been a firefighter for approximately 28 years with the Cincinnati Fire Department and worked with the Harris-Elmore Fire Department on a similar effort earlier this year.
St. Vincent and the Grenadines will receive 14 breathing units, 30 air bottles and 25 face masks from the Lindsey fire department.
“It’s just good we can send them down there,” Zimmerman said as he looked over the donated equipment Tuesday at Lindsey’s main fire station.
In making the donation to the Caribbean fire departments, Zimmerman noted that his department got two donated AutoPulse CPR machines from the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department.
“So we’ve been on the other side of this thing,” Zimmerman said.
Zimmerman said he did not know when Cook would be picking up the donated equipment and shipping it to the Caribbean departments.
Other countries to benefit include the Dominican Republic, Haiti, and Antigua and Barbuda. The Lindsey Fire Department is located in Ohio USA.
