SVG gears up for Independence masters cricket tournament

St. Vincent and the Grenadines has officially launched the Independence International Masters Cricket Tournament, set to take place from October 24 to November 1, 2025.

The tournament, strategically timed to coincide with the country’s 46th Independence celebrations, will bring together 21 teams from across the Caribbean, North America, and the United Kingdom.

With over 400 visitors expected, including players, coaches, officials, and their families, the event is set to be a major highlight of the national calendar.

The competition will culminate in a thrilling T20 night finale on Saturday, November 1, at the Arnos Vale Cricket Ground.

Cricket fans will witness an epic showdown between the West Indian Masters XI and the Rest of the World Masters XI, featuring legendary players such as Courtney Walsh, Curtly Ambrose, and local heroes Nixon McLean and Kesrick Williams.

Minister of Tourism James emphasized the broader significance of the event, stating, “This tournament is a testament to our nation’s spirit – celebrating talent, unity, and resilience. It’s not just a sporting event, but a platform that showcases St. Vincent and the Grenadines as a destination where sport, culture, and tourism converge.”

Minister of Sports Orando Brewster highlighted the tournament’s deeper meaning, noting, “This is more than a competition. It’s a bridge connecting generations, inspiring youth, and demonstrating the transformative power of sport in our community.”

Organizers are optimistic about the tournament becoming an annual event, potentially establishing St. Vincent and the Grenadines as a permanent hub for cricket, culture, and community celebration.
