The government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines has received an Automatic Weather Station (AWS) and a Coral Reef Early Warning System (CREWS) station which are critical tools for building resilience, providing data to support climate and climate change science and information to aid decision makers.
The equipment received from the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (CCCCC) in association with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Eastern and Southern Caribbean Office, was handed over at a ceremony on Wednesday.
The marine and land-based data gathering systems were acquired through the USAID Climate Change Adaptation Program (USAID CCAP) and installed with assistance from the Caribbean Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology (CIMH), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
USAID mission director, Mr. Christopher Cushing speaking at the handing over ceremony held at the Training Room, at Argyle International Airport said the use of these systems will increase this country’s capacity to anticipate and manage the impacts of changing weather patterns.
