Camillo Gonsalves, Minister of Finance in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, stated that when the network of CCTV cameras in St. Vincent and the Grenadines is completed, it would be the largest CCTV camera network in the Eastern Caribbean.
According to Gonsalves, the system will now have 360 cameras after the addition of 160 CCTV cameras.
“CCTV cameras will also be implemented in Bequia; I believe CCTV cameras will be established there in two weeks.” When completed, the network of 360 CCTV cameras will be the largest CCTV camera network in the eastern Caribbean,” he stated.
The police announced in a release that the CCTV system in 2021 had assisted law enforcement with evidence in 50 incidents, including accidents, robberies, and property damage.
The Government and People of the Republic of China on Taiwan supported the launch of the second (2nd) phase of the Intelligent Video Analytics (CCTV) Project on Friday, March 10, 2023.
The Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) who enthusiastically supports the CCTV Project said in a statement.
” Its application has resulted in a number of practical benefits. It has prevented crimes from occurring in areas where the cameras are located; the cameras have provided compelling evidence that aided in the resolution of one of the homicides in 2022; video surveillance helps to deter vandalism and provides some level of peace of mind to residents in communities where they are located; and the footage is constantly being used in traffic cases before the court”.
The Republic of China (Taiwan) recently donated 160 CCTV cameras, 30 body camera units, and a vehicle license plate identification system to St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
