- Mom charged with forcing teenage daughter into prostitution
A 38-year-old mother has been charged with human trafficking and matchmaking after she allegedly pushed her 15-year-old daughter to have sexual contact with males.
Police also arrested a 34-year-old government worker after the teenager identified him as one of the customers with whom she had sex in exchange for cash.
According to the police, the Kwatta agency transferred the matter to the Youth Affairs department, which assessed that it involved human trafficking and contacted the Trafficking in Persons (TIP) department.
The TIP stated that its investigations discovered that the victim was sexually molested by a stepbrother beginning at the age of 13 and that no charges were ever brought against him.
“Furthermore, in 2023, the mother took the victim to various nightclubs in the Nickerie district, where she had to go with customers to have sex with them for payment, per the woman’s instructions.” She then had to provide the money to her mother right away.”
The authorities stated that this case occurred in the west of Suriname “and it cannot be ruled out that several suspects will be arrested,” adding that the TIP and Youth Affairs police are continuing their investigation.
