The incident in question involved a male patient who was receiving medical care in the facility’s Male Surgical ward at the time of the occurrence. The RSVGPF is also relieved to report that no other patients or hospital staff were targeted or harmed during this isolated event.
Initial findings suggest that an unidentified individual bypassed security measures at the checkpoints and gained unauthorized access to the hospital grounds. This person was seeking a particular male patient and, upon locating him, discharged a firearm twice at the individual before making an attempt to escape the vicinity.
The shooting prompted an immediate and coordinated response from the RSVGPF High Command. Specialized units, including the Narcotics Unit (DS), Rapid Response Unit (RRU), and the Special Services Unit (SSU), were swiftly deployed to pursue leads. This concerted effort led to the arrest and detention of several individuals believed to be connected to the incident.
The individual believed to be responsible for the shooting incident was successfully apprehended by the police.
Initial investigations have further uncovered that the alleged assailant incurred self-inflicted injuries during an attempt to flee the scene. As a result, he required medical treatment, which he is presently receiving at the MCMH and is also aiding the police with their ongoing investigation.
Two firearms were also seized by the officers involved in the operation.
The Royal Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) is diligently pursuing its investigation into this grave matter.
