Carlos James, Member of Parliament for North Leeward and Minister of Tourism, has hailed the establishment of the second banking institution in his constituency.
The Teachers’ Co-operative Credit Union of St. Vincent and the Grenadines will open its Chateaubelair branch on Thursday, January 4, 2024.
On Tuesday, the minister shared his thoughts at a community consultation in Spring Village.
According to the North Leeward MP, during his tenure as member of parliament the economic and rural transformation of the North Leeward constituency will be realized commencing with a series of strategic developmental initiatives including the opening of the North Leeward Technical Institute to provide training for youth, the introduction of financial services, which will provide loan opportunities for businesses and home construction, infrastructure developments such as the Chateaubelair Wharf as a port of entry, the construction of the cultural and artistic hubs in Petit Bordel and Troumaca, the North Leeward agro-processing facility and the North Leeward Administrative Centre to facilitate the decentralising of government services including revenue office, customs and immigration among them,” James said.
The North Leeward MP stated that at least a third financial institution has shown interest in serving his constituents. Following the completion of the administrative building in Chateaubelair, which is set to break ground this year, the space will be made available for other financial institutions to open branches, according to James.
“The transformation within North Leeward starts with people working together and supporting the development initiatives that are coming on stream,” the minister added.
The community consultations will continue throughout North Leeward as part of an endeavour to incorporate residents in discussions about planned development and programming for the area.
