Area Director, Tamira Browne concluded a second round of Club Officer Training for local executive officials within Toastmasters Clubs here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines on Saturday, 11th January 2020 at the Girl Guides Headquarters in Level Gardens.
Twenty leaders from four clubs in St. Vincent and the Grenadines participated in the Club Officer Training in order to support members and prospective members throughout St. Vincent and the Grenadines in achieving their communication and leadership goals based on the educational programme offered by Toastmasters International.
The opening sessions covered the fundamentals of the Toastmasters programme by Toastmaster Jacqueline English-Jacobs as well as transitioning from the legacy educational programme to a modern and dynamic educational programme offered by Toastmasters International that was facilitated by Toastmaster Xelony Daize.
During the feature presentation, Distinguished Toastmaster Arlette Miller addressed the various indicators for tracking members’ progress and development and using best practices to develop improved communication and leadership skills. DTM Arlette Miller also encouraged Club Officers to set goals and actively work towards achieving various levels of recognition through the Distinguished Club Programme.
Club officers also benefitted from participating in several break out groups to fully understand the duties associated with the executive roles: President, Vice President Education, Vice President Public Relations, Vice President Membership, Secretary, Treasurer and Sergeant-at-Arms.
In preparation for this year’s Area Speech Contest on Saturday, 1st February 2020, Area Director Tamira Browne urged Club Officers to work with Club members to prepare speeches of the highest standard in order for contest participants to advance to the next round of competition at the Division level in Bridgetown, Barbados scheduled for April 2020.
Vincentian Toastmaster, Anika Stapleton, in 2009, after winning the Area level Contest advanced to the District Contest in Jamaica and after placing first represented St. Vincent and the Grenadines and the entire Caribbean in the Toastmasters International Worldwide International Speech Contest in Connecticut, U.S.A. Area Director Browne challenged Club Officers to strive to emulate once again Stapleton’s success at the Area, Division, District and International levels.
